Roxie Theater says…

Who woulda thunk an Oskaloosa-born cellist would one day be remembered as a vital force in New York's experimental-music and underground-dance scenes? Then again, how many Oskaloosa-born cellists ever accompanied Allen Ginsberg, played with heavies such as Philip Glass, David Byrne, and Peter Gordon, and had their tracks mixed by the likes of François Kevorkian? Arthur Russell, co-founder of dance label Sleeping Bag Records, might be best known for producing Loose Joints' rousing "Is It All Over My Face," but his creative output extends into New York's downtown gallery spaces as well as its discos. Director Matt Wolf paints a loving portrait of a true musical polymath, whose work is finally receiving its proper due.
