We've all wondered just what may have happened between the country's 16th president and his notoriously handsome friends. Now we have the SF Playhouse to fill in all the blanks with its romping production of Abraham Lincoln's Big Gay Dance Party. The story centers around a third grade teacher who accidentally outs Abe at the annual Christmas Pageant, and a veritable trial of the century — with the audience as judge and jury — ensues. While the dancing is certainly delightful (picture plural Abes shaking their beards to everything from the Cotillion to the Samba), the subject matter is more than timely, and Aaron Loeb's acclaimed script poignantly captures the quest to redefine our national identity.
