Quincy Jones' curriculum vitae reads like a pocket guide to the past half century of American music. The '50s saw him arranging for jazz greats Sarah Vaughan, Ray Charles, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington. By the '60s, he was conducting Frank Sinatra's orchestra and composing soundtracks for Sidney Lumet. His production work on Michael Jackson's Thriller and the film version of Alice Walker's The Color Purple reached new heights for both the man and popular music. Along the way, Jones picked up an all-time record 79 Grammy nominations, seven Oscar nods, and numerous Emmy mentions. Former Rolling Stone writer and Jones biographer Ben Fong-Torres conducts tonight's interview.
