Diesel, A Bookstore says…

Although Lawrence Ferlinghetti dubbed poet Gary Snyder the "Thoreau of the Beat Generation" and he appears in Jack Kerouac's The Dharma Bums, Snyder remained somewhat of an outsider to the group of East Coast transplants that was later known as the Beats. Snyder's closest compatriot among the bunch was Allen Ginsberg, with whom he shared the stage at the now famous Six Gallery reading in 1955. Ginsberg and Snyder also connected over their shared interest in Buddhism and Eastern philosophy and poetry. Tonight, Snyder reads from his extensive correspondence with the author of "Howl," illuminating one of the great literary friendships of American letters.
