Renowned for his formally innovative writing, the late French author Alain Robbe-Grillet depicts the world with an almost scientific objectivism. His work jettisons certain traditional components of the novel — realism or interiority, for example — in favor of a descriptive reduction of the world to its most elementary particles: objects and actions. Robbe-Grillet also frequently uses film to explore the nouveau roman, and the YBCA celebrates this aspect of his work with this series that includes such rarely screened "cine-novels" as Trans-Europ Express and L'Immortelle, along with his famous collaboration with director Alain Resnais, Last Year at Marienbad — in which having a faulty memory has never looked so good.
