In transPOP, 16 artists reveal and restructure the love/hate triangle between Korea, Vietnam, and the United States. This international survey examines the legacy of the Vietnam War — which, in addition to well-documented effects on US-Vietnam relations, significantly boosted the Korean economy — while also touching on Korea and Vietnam's joint obsession with the late-'90s Korean pop-culture boom known as the Korean wave. Snatches of pop songs, paintings of vibrant, fast-growing cities, and war footage juxtaposed with the banality of everyday life are thrown together with bright neon portraits and plastic toy displays to provide a glimpse into the many cultural turns these two East Asian countries have undergone.
