Mark Olson's work with Gary Louris in the Jayhawks stands as peak alt-country. The peerless vocal harmonies overlay richly hued country soul on classic albums like Hollywood Town Hall and Tomorrow the Green Grass. Fans would do anything for a reunion, but in the meantime, Olson's collaborations with his wife Victoria Williams in the Original Harmony Ridge Creekdippers have made for some fine front-porch folk, and his recent solo album, The Salvation Blues, continues to carry the tender torch of the late Gram Parsons. Co-headliner Mary Gauthier delivers carefully wrought, Flannery O'Connor-touched verses with a gravelly grace much admired by music critics.
