High-definition television has made watching sports a uniquely eye-popping experience, though the onscreen graphics and exquisite close-ups sometimes obscure a sense of the immersive reality of the game as it's played. Enter Zidane, a startlingly graceful documentary feat pulled off by codirectors Philippe Parreno and Douglas Gordon, the latter of whom is the subject of an ongoing exhibition at SFMOMA. Their film, which sold out a weekend at Yerba Buena last May, draws on 17 synchronized cameras, a voice-over track, and some monumental trimmings from Scottish post-rockers Mogwai to recreate one game in the life of Zinédine Zidane, the French soccer star now most notorious for head-butting an Italian defender in the 2006 World Cup Final.
