This exhibit tracks the history of clothing and the evolving nature of fashion — from ceremonial robes to haute couture — as an integral element of cultural identity. While globalization and worldwide media have made contemporary Western fashion a factor in nearly every nation's style, traditional designs hold just as much sway. Embroidered-silk Chinese robes, Pucci's brightly swirled blouses, and Kei Ito's conceptual dresses sit side by side; as well, several March lectures, plus an April runway show, accompany the exhibit to provide a glimpse into fashion's future.
