With all the media attention surrounding the upcoming presidential election, the war in Iraq, and Britney Spears' latest breakdown, it's easy to forget there is a larger world out there where human rights are not guaranteed. Global issues require the world's attention to make any sort of progress. With this in mind, Human Rights Watch International Film Festival's series of narrative, documentary, and animated films and videos showcase the power of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Poignant, moving, and eye-opening, the subjects of the films range from Darfur and global warming to political activism and Hurricane Katrina — in short, the stories and issues that concern us all.
