Referring to himself as a "skeptical empiricist," essayist and scholar Nassim Taleb eschews the universal thinking enforced by Platonic realism. Instead, he focuses on the development of forward thinking that prepares us for dealing with the unstructured randomness of the world, whether minor or catastrophic. With keen insight and a sense of humor, Taleb explores these concepts in his recent book, The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable, and presents them for discussion in this evening's installment of the Long Now Foundation's Seminars About Long-term Thinking.
