Music: Classical Tin Hat

With a graceful, ambling gait, Tin Hat's intricate compositions stroll through a variety of genres, from improvisational jazz to Eastern European folk. The band is composed of versatile chamber and jazz musicians, including violinist Carla Kihlstedt (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, 2 Foot Yard) and multi-instrumentalist Ara Anderson, who has recorded with Tom Waits. Tin Hat's dreamlike atmospheres are the base for their latest release, Sad Machinery of Spring, on which unusual instruments like harmonium, celesta, glockenspiel, and Dobro tug and pull through sweetly revelatory songs.
