Tuesdays–Saturdays (noon–5pm)
Emerging with a rejuvenated image and collection in March, the Museum of Performance & Design mounts an impressive exhibit chronicling the visual splendor of the San Francisco Ballet. The 75-year-old dance institution was founded by Ballets Russes choreographer Adolph Bolm, whose company's performances were matched only by their exquisite stage and costume design. The exhibition spotlights the work of art-nouveau set designer Léon Bakst, who worked closely with Sergei Diaghilev in the early 1900s, and costume designer Irene Sharaff, who created outfits for films like West Side Story (1961) and has had illustrations featured in Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.
