Music: Electronic Modeselektor w/ Boreta

The joke about IDM (intelligent dance music, natch) is that the music only rarely sounds good on the dance floor. But like Ed Banger's twist on French house, Modeselektor have used IDM's programming filigrees and glitchy flourishes to embroider another party-rocking workhorse: hip-hop. Last year's Happy Birthday! stayed close to the sound the Berlin duo perfected on 2005's attention-grabbing Hello Mom!: deep-fried low end, rock-tumbler drum programming, and vocals chopped-and-screwed with enough effects to make guest rappers such as TTC and Puppetmastaz sound like Porky Pig. But when self-professed Modeselektor mega-fan Thom Yorke shows up to lend his trademark croon (and on a ballad, no less), you know these guys are more than the sum of their digital farts.
