- Evangelicals are a young band, but they're already being touted as the next Flaming Lips — costumes, Oklahoma roots, spacey glam-pop, and all. Their sophomore release, The Evening Descends, is a passion play of sweet melodies, Queen-like drama, and arty atmospherics. It's unlikely that the Evangelicals will play small clubs for much longer, so catch them while you can. Not to be upstaged, headliners Headlights update the boy-girl pop duet (think Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell) with whip-smart lyrics and sugary arrangements redolent of '60s pop. – Max Goldberg
