Music: Rock/Pop Phosphorescent w/ Bon Iver and White Hinterland

Tonight, Phosphorescent's Matthew Houck headlines a triple-bill of immersive folk. After first attracting notice in Georgia for his parading indie rock, Houck moved to Brooklyn and recorded Pride, an altogether more subtle creation than previous albums like Aw Come, Aw Wry. While Houck gravitates towards the Neil Young/Will Oldham school of cracked vocals, Bon Iver's Justin Vernon soars on falsettoed blue-eyed soul. His debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago, was recorded over several solitary winter months in rural Wisconsin. The resulting mix of fantastical lyrics and fragmentary song structures comes off as a slightly artier version of Iron & Wine: delicate and demanding full attention.
