Film: Shorts Regime Change: Films by Daniel Barnett, Jean-Gabriel Périot, and Chris Marker
-
- Still from Jean-Gabriel Périot's Even If She Had Been a Criminal
The films in tonight's program examine what happens when governments fall. Jean-Gabriel Périot's Eût-elle été criminelle… (Even If She Had Been a Criminal...) uses archival footage to re-examine Paris' 1944 liberation from the Nazis, paying close attention to how the Resistance was recast as a collection of traitors. Meanwhile, Chris Marker documents a fictional coup conducted within a foreign embassy in The Embassy (1971). Daniel Barnett's An Anagram (2003) follows the years of fallout from the erosion of communism in the former USSR, using footage shot by veteran ABC cameraman Gary Henoch.
