Indie rock has never seen such affection for Eastern Europe. Between Beirut's love affair with Slavic folk tunes and Gogol Bordello's love affair with — well, the stage — trilling harmoniums and minor-chord accordions are gracing stages from the Great American to the Herbst. Balkan Beat Box, a Brooklyn duo comprised of ex-Gogol Bordello and Firewater members, plus a rotating lineup of musically inclined friends, are the latest to get in on the trend. Their music is a dizzying collage of gypsy melodies, wobbling klezmer saxophone lines, and ska rhythms, topped with bits of polyglot singing and spoken word.
