Music: Rock/Pop Scout Niblett w/ Wilderness and Agent Ribbons

Although Scout Niblett is frequently compared to Cat Power, the singer's razor-sharp vocals and sudden switches from skeletal blues to sludgy grunge feel more in line with PJ Harvey than Chan Marshall's easy-listening grace. The English-born Niblett has lately settled in Portland, OR, and developed her heavier tendencies with legendary producer Steve Albini. Co-headliners Wilderness are one of the few bands capable of making the well-trod dissonance of post-punk pioneers like Mission of Burma and Echo & the Bunnymen exciting again. Powerhouse singer James Johnson eschews the typical indie-rock mumble in favor of affected vocals on the far side of John Lydon and the Fall's Mark E. Smith.
