It's a good thing that the Independent has partial seating for tonight's Stars of the Lid show, since both members of the ambient instrumental duo have said that if a song doesn't make them fall asleep, it's not finished. "Soporific" is an adjective most bands would find insulting, but across a handful of long-form releases, Stars of the Lid have cultivated a faintly melancholy palette of airbrushed guitar, treated strings, and muted brass that is best experienced in a somnambulant state. But don't sleep (ha) on this show: Stars tour even less frequently than they release albums, and with the addition of a string section, tonight's set should be even dreamier than usual.
