Tom Waits fans are a devoted lot, so it's a good bet this one-off screening of the gravel-voiced singer's 1988 musical Big Time will play to a packed house. Unavailable on DVD, Chris Blum's film mixes live performances with theatrical interludes befitting the singer's long-standing interest in burlesque. Waits can sometimes seem a caricature of himself to nonbelievers, but there's no denying that Big Time catches him in full command of his hobo-vaudeville persona. Better yet, most of the songs here are from his punchiest albums, Rain Dogs and Swordfishtrombones.
