Although Houston-based noisemakers Indian Jewelry have a few core members, they've been known to expand or contract their size for any given show. It's an unruly setup for an unruly sound, all blasted beats, dark guitar rumbles, and squalling synths. Sonic Youth, Suicide, and Butthole Surfers are reference points for their cacophony, though their live show is powerful enough to render any talk of influences moot. Brooklyn's Excepter released their most recent album, Debt Dept., on the Animal Collective-affiliated Paw Tracks label, but the band's electro-gurgles come in a few shades darker than AC's hyper jams.
