In an inspired pairing of sight and sound, the San Francisco International Film Festival presents The Golem with live original music by Black Francis (aka Pixies' frontman Frank Black). In 16th-century Prague, Rabbi Loew creates the Golem — a clay figure brought to life through sorcery — to protect the Jewish ghetto. When he loses control of the Golem, however, chaos ensues. With its striking imagery and surrealist sets, The Golem is a classic example of German expressionist cinema, made all the more unique by Black Francis' exciting new score.
