Cowboy Junkies were critics' darlings in the '80s and '90s, though their influence remains woefully under-acknowledged. By dragging on tempos until they reached a smoky impasse, they helped pave the way for everyone from Cat Power to Low. One of their best albums, 1988's The Trinity Session, reworked several songs by other bands, including a memorable take on the Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane." The Canadian band recently looked back on this defining project with Trinity Revisited, a somewhat quixotic collection of the same set of songs, recorded in the same Toronto church where the original album was made.
