The Field is Axel Willner, a Swedish electro-wizard at the forefront of a growing European movement to reintroduce trance and minimalism back into the DJ palette. Willner may favor crisp beats and icy synths, but his music is unabashedly romantic in its swelling grandeur. The Field invigorates the clichés of ambient music with lucid, wordless, expansively repetitive compositions that reward close attention. Willner only released his debut album last year, but hopefully the title — From Here We Go Sublime — is an indication of great things to come.
