Film Lonely Boys: Steve Reinke in the Company of Some Other Men

Steve Reinke's camcorder monologues are diaristic, but have precious little in common with autobiography. Reinke's largely off-camera diatribes air the artist's personal obsessions through acerbic, raunchy cultural critique. Just check the doubly referential title of his 2006 piece, Regarding the Pain of Susan Sontag (Notes on Camp), which puns on Sontag's famous 2003 book. Oprah, gay serial killers, and psychoanalysis are all equal fodder for Reinke's rants. He's in good company, as guest curator Sarah Robayo Sheridan has interspersed other free-associative pieces from George Kuchar, John Smith, and Joe Gibbons, creating a chorus of one-sided conversations.
