Fern Knight and Ex Reverie are part of the same Philadelphia scene that spawned Espers, so the two bands naturally gravitate toward the gothic side of the freak-folk spectrum. Both outfits also feature bewitching female vocals, howling guitar distortion, and the unsettling undertow of cellos.
