Reading Eleanor Coppola: Notes on a Life

Almost 30 years after publishing an account of her husband's infamous production Apocalypse Now (1979), Eleanor Coppola returns to the literary world with a traditional, rather modestly titled memoir. With daughter Sofia now a filmmaking star in her own right, and son Roman making overtures, Coppola is firmly accustomed to her supporting role; whether she's writing about the Hollywood aristocracy or the tragic death of her son Gio, however, she eschews self-pity in favor of essayistic wit. Coppola reads from Notes on a Life at Tosca, the North Beach bar that has long served as an unofficial club house for film celebrities in San Francisco.
