As if universal healthcare isn't enough, Vancouver's Dan Bejar strengthens the case for our red, white, and maple neighbors to the north. Under the Destroyer moniker, his distinctive blend of Cat Stevens-cum-Renaissance Fair theatrics and histrionic guitar work gives shape to a strikingly consistent, if highly idiosyncratic body of work. As part of power-pop factory the New Pornographers, Bejar typifies the collectivist spirit of recent Canadian indie rock. LA's Devon Williams opens with his similarly skewed '70s pop sensibility.
