- The Dark Crystal
The Dark Crystal's characters aren't your run-of-the-mill Muppets. They come from the planet Thra, whose dominant race, the UrSkeks, split into two bipolar races when they cracked the Crystal of Truth. The evil Skeksis chased off the good UrRus and killed all but one Gelfling, Jen, who embarks on a quest to repair the crystal. Director Jim Henson leaves behind his sunny, simple Kermit and Miss Piggy, opting for a richer, darker palette and a plot pitting good against evil. The first live-action movie sans humans, the fantasy film shows the demented genius hiding within the guy who once sang "Rubber Ducky, You're the One."
Note: Saturday, May 24, is Solstice Lounge Night and includes cocktails and a special pre-movie performance by muppet-core band Mr. Stopmotion and the Yellow Dress. For this screening, the price is $10.50.
