Tuesday May 6 (9pm)
While often grouped with the local freak-folk scene because of their close affiliation with (sometimes member) Devendra Banhart, Vetiver generally favor winsome pop melodies over tribal chants. In concert, guiding light Andy Cabic leads his shaggy but well-honed band through a warm set of lilting originals, mellow arias, and affectionate covers. (Thing of the Past, Vetiver's upcoming album, collects some of the latter for one of the best tribute records since Yo La Tengo's Fakebook). They're joined tonight by Kelley Stoltz, a local songsmith who has mastered the holy trinity of the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, and Small Faces like no one else.
