Tonight's all-lady lineup features some of the best emerging talent from both coasts. NYC's Northern State have drawn comparison to the Beastie Boys (and their more obscure female alter egos, Luscious Jackson), spitting rough, politically charged rhymes against bare-bones beats. Over the years, the three have smoothed out their flow and kicked in a few guitar riffs and melodic elements (just check last year's release, Can I Keep This Pen?). The Trucks embrace the finest elements of Olympia's riot-grrl movement, blending crystal-clear vocals with punky, simple melodies and the occasional electro-dance synth beat. Opening are the Bay Area's very own the Hot Toddies, whose geekily self-aware punk-pop will get the audience ready and raring to go.
