Davia Nelson and Nikki Silva (aka the Kitchen Sisters) have long enchanted NPR listeners with groundbreaking audio portraits of the hidden facets of American life. From their Peabody Award-winning series Lost and Found Sound (a palimpsest-like archive of the practices of everyday life) to Hidden Kitchens (their travelogue of culinary backroads and under-the-radar eateries), Nelson and Silva are public radio's cultural anthropologists. Tonight, as part of Chicago's Third Coast International Audio Festival, the Sisters play audio highlights from their many treks across the nation and tell the stories behind their award-winning work.
