Music: Rock/Pop Singer w/ Sic Alps
Tonight's a double bill for connoisseurs of damaged guitar rock. Battles beat Singer to the punch as the first post-rock supergroup, but where Battles' intellectual stadium rock smoothed over its members' idiosyncrasies, Singer's arty dissonance doesn't make things easy for anyone. Guitarist Todd Rittmann and drummer Adam Vida used to play with US Maple, and the new group retains that band's unwieldy, jazz-inflected rock. The vocals, contributed by all four members, add another layer of delightful confusion to Singer's cacophony. Opening duo Sic Alps blast garage-rock chords through murky distortion and shimmering fields of feedback.
