Chiuly_large

Although the California Academy of Sciences is across the street, it's the de Young that's currently filled with swarms of jellyfish, fields of lush succulents, and macroscopic ice crystals. Famed American glassblower Dale Chihuly's large-scale sculptures evoke nature at its most diaphanous, luminous, and — at times — alien. The massive size of the pieces in the artist's first major SF retrospective hides their fragility, but it is only with such scale that Chihuly can truly immerse the viewer in form and color.
