More Flavor: Tribute Bloomsday Celebration

James Joyce's Ulysses famously pulls hundreds of pages' worth of details and countervailing narrations out of a single day in Dublin. That day, for those who aren't lit-geeks or Irish ex-pats, is June 16, now known as Bloomsday. The Mechanics' Institute celebrates the 104th anniversary of Leopold Bloom's odyssey with an appropriately vaudevillian mix of readings, song, costuming, and black pudding. Bloomsday is an acknowledged secular holiday in Ireland, but it's sure to be no less festive in San Francisco for being a little off the beaten path.
