Italian horror maestro Dario Argento's long-awaited Mother of Tears completes the "Three Mothers" trilogy he started three decades ago with Suspiria (1977) and Inferno (1980). Argento's new CGI-rich palette might require an adjustment for fans of his older films, but the director has lost none of his bloodlust: babies die, eyes are gouged, and necks are torn open as a long-dormant supernatural force — the titular mama — reeks havoc after being awoken by Sarah Mandy (played by Dario's daughter Asia). Only someone as brilliantly twisted as Argento would think to use intestines as a noose.
