Critics immediately embraced Fleet Foxes' two releases — the Sun Giant EP and their self-titled debut album — causing the kind of meteoric rise usually reserved for bands hawking the latest musical trend. But this Seattle-based group, whose baroque pop gems mix '70s folk, chamber music, and Northwestern indie rock, is no flavor of the month. Fleet Foxes' eclectic instrumentation is indebted to Fleetwood Mac and the Incredible String Band, and their vocal harmonies bring to mind Band of Horses and My Morning Jacket. And while communal ideals and landscape imagery are common musical touchstones these days, few acts embrace these tropes as sincerely as these guys.
