Sean Talley's new series of silkscreen prints at Jancar Jones Gallery contains understated, insightful contrasts. Richly colored, sparse populations of shapes commingle on a flat, white plain. Taken individually, the works appear to be an ode to early-20th-century avant-garde modernism. Elsewhere, a primer describes the fundamentals of design and composition — how to create relationships through placement, color, shape, and scale. Taken en masse, Talley's pieces have a humorous and whimsical (albeit Spartan) tone that pleasantly evokes the artist's personality.
