When James Agee and Walker Evans chronicled the plight of sharecroppers in the Depression-plagued South, their epic prose and images eventually became a generation's time capsule. In the same spirit, guest curator Robert Mailer Anderson and Marx & Zavaterro have organized this exhibition of six Bay Area writers and photographers who capture the city's certain something. Esteemed writers Peter Plate, Victor Martinez, and Michelle Tea offer tales that cast San Francisco in markedly different roles, while photographers Gregory Halpern, Whitney Hubbs, and Sean McFarland remind viewers that, although the city may be crammed into a small 7 x 7-mile patch of land, the splendor within is anything but finite. – Isaac Amala
