After two studio albums and two bootleg hip-hop mixtapes, New York's Ratatat decamped to an old mansion in the Catskills to record their third full-length release. Combining various old-time rock instruments (harpsichords, mellotrons, wurlitzers) with their futuristic synth lines, soaring guitar riffs, and crackling, pulsating laptop beats, Mike Stroud and Evan Mast built a new set of instrumental tracks that are both atmospheric and danceable. While their new material is more ambient than before, it's still recognizable — and it still feels the same on the dance floor.
