The Girls Rock Camp Alliance, founded in Portland and now spanning the globe from Austin to Sweden, has a new local addition: the Bay Area Girls Rock Camp. Staffed by volunteer female musicians (past GRCA instructors include members of Sleater-Kinney and the Gossip) and influenced by everything from Sister Rosetta Tharpe to Eve Libertine, the Camps teach girls ages 8-18 the essentials of rocking out, being confident, and finding new, blissfully noisy methods of expression. Tonight's showcase is the culmination of this year's one-week rock-'n-roll-intensive session and features 13 bands performing one song each.
