While many would cite a love of the game, the thrill of competition, or health benefits as reasons to play sports, many others would just as soon damn athletics as one of our culture's cruelest crucibles. In honor of those for whom "gym" was synonymous with "hell," Litquake presents an Olympiad of commiseration and stranger-than-fiction tales. Tonight's top competitors include former gymnast Jennifer Sey, whose Chalked Up examines professional gymnastics' effect on its youngest female hopefuls; film-noir expert and boxing columnist Eddie Muller; "failed soccer dad" Alan Black; and former professional wrestler and Incredibly Strange Wrestling organizer Bob Calhoun.
