For over 20 years, Kepi Ghoulie has made a career out of writing catchy punk-rock songs. After Groovie Ghoulies disbanded in 2007, he immediately formed Kepi: The Band, and has since proved that he can still crank out hummable tunes. Over two simultaneous releases, Hanging Out and American Gothic, Kepi have blown through 25 tracks of deceptively simple hooks with unapologetic sincerity. The first features churning, power-chord-driven rock of the sort familiar to Groovie Ghoulies fans, while Gothic sits at the opposite end of the spectrum, with the songwriter restraining his spastic punk instincts to craft acoustic songs that recall alt-country as much as the Ramones.
