Music: Experimental Extra Life w/ Nat Baldwin

Both Extra Life's Charlie Looker and Nat Baldwin have spent significant time in the Dirty Projectors, lending muscle and intellectual firepower to David Longstreth's already heady emoting. They're equally compelling playing on their own: Extra Life is more physically exhausting than a thrash band, not least of all for Looker's shivering voice, pitched between psycho howls and a delicate whimper (imagine Xiu Xiu's Jamie Stewart backed by some seriously geometrical medieval skronk). Baldwin, meanwhile, plies his breakneck songs on the double bass, happily evoking Arthur Russell's "Buddhist bubblegum" with his quivering, sweet-toothed melodies.
