Performing Arts: Dance Alonzo King's LINES Ballet feat. Pharoah Sanders

Alonzo King's company infuses modern dance and ballet with other traditions and techniques. This spirit of cross-pollination invigorates the company's contributions to the Stern Grove Festival — two collaborative pieces with free-jazz saxophone powerhouse Pharoah Sanders. Sanders' own 1994 cross-cultural collaboration with master Moroccan Gnawa musician Maleem Mahmoud Ghania is reflected in The Moroccan Project and Migration. The performance also includes the world premiere of a new King-choreographed pas de deux featuring former San Francisco Ballet principal dancer Muriel Maffre and former LINES Ballet dancer Prince Credell.
