SFMOMA says…

Drawing on Mexico's rich cinematic history, the Angel of Fire film series — an accompainment to SFMoMA's blockbuster Frida Kahlo exhibit — forms a composite portrait of the painter through the films that shaped her cultural milieu. While the program includes well-known titles like Sergei Eisenstein and Upton Sinclair's aborted doc ¡Que viva Mexico! (1932/1979) and Luis Buñuel's Nazarín (1959), it also reintroduces lost Mexican classics like the wildly popular cabaretera (a hybrid noir musical) Aventurera (1950) and Gabriel García Moreno's surrealist 1927 morphine trip El Puño de hierro (The Iron Fist).
