The Castro celebrates Independence Day with a double-header of mad scientists and hackers. The Fouth of July bill features genre-founding sci-fi classic TRON, followed by Brainstorm, the visually stunning film directed by Douglas Trumbull, who created the special effects for Blade Runner and 2001: A Space Odyssey. While neither movie was a blockbuster during its original theatrical release, each has gone on to achieve cult status, retroactively redefining our conception of alternate realities. For Brainstorm fans, the Castro has a special treat: a 70mm version of the film, with six-track surround sound for maximum effect.
