Hailing from Hokkaido, Japan, J-poppers Glay make their first visit to the States with tonight's performance at the Fillmore. Glay play spare, toothlessly sweet pop — like an even sunnier Fountains of Wayne, but with less swivel in their hips and more poster-boy appeal. And unlike indie darlings Shonen Knife, Glay continue to record exclusively in their native tongue, save for an occasional U2 cover or catchy chorus. While tonight's show will certainly be packed with curious newbies, there will also be plenty of dedicated fans eager to share the band's monocultural enthusiasm. Plus, it's the only way to pick up one of the group's hilariously punny t-shirts.
