Screamo hasn't been the same since Santa Cruz's Yaphet Kotto broke up in 2005 (although stoner metal got a little better, as members went on to form local faves Saviours), making their one-off reunion show at the eternally punker-than-thou 924 Gilman all the more triumphant. The definition of "screamo" may have changed in the past few years, but Yaphet Kotto are members of the old breed: harsh and political, with a signature double-guitar, double-vox sound jumping from high-pitched wails to guttural roars. Also on the bill are Italy's La Quiete, who bring their even more frenzied and chaotic take on the style to our fragile American ears.
